You know when you’re young-ish and think that you’re strong and invincible and that any form of sickness will not come knocking at your door? Well, that was me until one day I tried getting out of bed and was in torturous pain.
“What’s wrong with me?” I replayed that question in my mind, and soon I was to find out that I had a slipped disc at the base of my neck. Next was a whirlwind of treatment options and doctor’s opinions.
I was admitted to the hospital a day or two before His Eminence the 7th Panglung Kuten was due for an official visit to Kechara. During his two-month stay, he was to perform various pujas as well as a Dorje Shugden trance at Kechara Forest Retreat. As the event preparations were underway, I was at the hospital getting treatment and it was there where I also received advice from my compassionate Lama, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, to do a mini mantra retreat of 50,000 Dorje Shugden mantras. I was in bed most of the time and not being able to get around without assistance was frustrating. I did my recitations daily, with reverence and hope that soon, I would be up and about again.
I had a procedure done and after a week in hospital, I was discharged and recuperated at Kechara Forest Retreat. H.E. Tsem Rinpoche performed many prayers for my swift recovery, and when Dorje Shugden took trance in Kechara Forest Retreat through the Venerable Panglung Kuten, Rinpoche personally told Dorje Shugden of my condition and requested the Protector to heal and bless me. Dorje Shugden recited prayers and blew directly onto my neck, and gave me a blessed string. In addition, Kache Marpo gave a long Dharma talk, during which he said that for those who are sick, it is powerful to do purification practices. Since then, I have been doing so.
I never really thought about sickness and its relation to karma, purification and obstacles. But looking back through my journey, everything that happened was too far of a perfect timing to call it coincidence. I could have fallen ill anytime, but I fell ill during a time when Dorje Shugden came to Kechara, and when my Lama was around. I believe that it is due to my Lama and Dorje Shugden’s blessings that I have been able to recover so fast, when many people would have been out of action for months. Of course, karma is always there and I don’t know when it will hit me again. But I take refuge in my Guru and my Protector, and it is my source of strength and hope.

We can recite Dorje Shugden Mantra wherever we are to request for his blessing, daily recitation of Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha x 108 can save us a lot of headache.

Posted on June 22, 2016 #2 AuthorThank you for sharing your story with us Carmen. Its is amazing that whenever we are in need, our compassionate and caring Guru, H.E. the 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and the Protector Dorje Shugden will be around to help us. Yes our karma needs to ripen and clear somehow but with their help, the effects of karma are much lighter for us to overcome. Having said that, we do need to generate the merits and have the good Guru samaya to be open to receiving their help. It is your work in Kechara of helping our Guru with his activities and benefitting so many people in the process that had help you gather so much merits to receive their love and care. May you be fully healed and always have the blessings of our Guru and Lord Dorje Shugden.

Posted on July 27, 2016 #3 AuthorThank you for sharing you story Carmen. It is true, surgery of any sort related to the spine is firstly very risky and secondly very difficult to heal as we need to move all the time. I have met people who had spine surgery and not only did the surgery need time to heal properly, the patients never fully recovered, i.e. their movements were permanently hindered.
I truly believe that your condition although looked “bad” initially was truly a blessing in disguise. We have so much karma accumulated that we do not even know of. All karma must ripen. However if they ripen in conditions whereby their negative impact on us is buffered by a great deal of merits, then we may get through it and recover. I am sure you have collected much merits from your hard work in Kechara that enabled you to be blessed in an undesirable situation.
May more have the opportunity to collect merits through sincere Dharma practice and work to bolster their journey in samsara.

Posted on October 8, 2016 #4 AuthorThank you Carmen for sharing your personal experience with us. It is indeed so true that we will never know when karma will hit us, especially in the form of illness that will render us in total helplessness. It is therefore very fortunate to have the blessing of our Lama and the swift assistance of the powerful Dharmapala Dorje Shugden to help us clear our negative karma. I wish for your complete recovery and may you always be blessed by Guru and the Three Jewels.
