Kawang Confessional Prayer to Dorje Shugden
Recently, due to some self created obstacles, Rinpoche assigned me to do Kawang Confessional Prayer to Dorje Shugden. This practice was very effective to stabilize my mind and help to remove the obstacles that I was facing. True to my teacher’s advice, the situation became better. Therefore, it is my pleasure to share this powerful practice to the world.

Thank you Valentina for sharing this step-by-step on how to practice Kawang, and also share with us your own experience. I found the guideline to be very detail including the visualization, what to offer and the prayer. However, I saw in the article that Kawang/Kanshag can be recited as a part of our daily sadhana and there are torma offering and verse recitation part right before DS recitation. Since I don’t have knowledge to make traditional torma, what is the substitution of traditional torma offering? Is it okay to recite torma verse without the actual torma offering in my altar or should I skip this part? Thank you.

    Dear Jeffry

Thank you for your question. To recite the korma offering verse the practitioners should have the tormas to be offered to the Buddha. The followings are advices from H.H. Zong Rinpoche and H.E. Tsem Rinpoche that you can follow:

“H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche has also mentioned that it would not be practical for the laity to offer traditional tormas, due to the time and effort involved in making sure that they are made correctly. Instead he suggested it would be fine to offer things that we like to eat, for example biscuits and cookies. We should make these offerings to the best of our ability and circumstance, as sincerity, trust and faith in Dorje Shugden will definitely bear results.

For regular practitioners who are not trained in the art of making tormas according to the traditional prescriptions, the tormas can be biscuits, cakes or cookies placed on a plate, bowl or cup which can be discarded in a clean place at the end of the puja. If you live in an area where this may not be possible, such as in an apartment, it is permissible to eat the tormas after the puja. If you don’t want to eat the tormas, you can wrap them up in paper and then discard them in the garbage.

H.E. Tsem Rinpoche encourages his students to represent tormas with a glass bottle that is filled with biscuits. The tormas are offered in glass bottles simply to prevent insects from getting into them. Or course, if you are travelling, in a hotel or other circumstance where it is not practical to make the torma offerings, you can still continue with your practice without any of the offerings, just the recitations and visualisations.”

    Hi all,

I am wondering about taking refuge to Dharma Protector. Dorje Shugden is irrefutably an enlightened protector and thus he is a perfect object of refuge. Do all entourages in the Dorje Shugden mandala are also fit to be object for refuge? It is because I read about a Methar, who arose as Dharma Protector and placed below Kache Marpo but I am wondering whether Methar is categorized as enlightened Dharma Protector or not?

    Dear Jeffry

Thank you for your question. Methar is not an enlightened Dharma protector. In addition to Methar, Namkar Barzin, a member of Dorje Shugden entourage, is also unenlightened. Namkar Barzin is known as the protector of Domo Geshe Rinpoche, his monasteries and temples.
Do read more about the special protector, Namkar Barzin ( http://www.dorjeshugden.org/blog/namkar-barzin)

You can ask for the help of unenlightened protectors like Methar and Namkar Barzin because they are part of Dorje Shugden entourage. However, you cannot take refuge in them.

Do read more about Dorje Shugden entourage by clicking on this link: http://www.dorjeshugden.org/overview/dorje-shugdens-entourage

Thank you again and my best wishes in your spiritual journey.
