LeeanJust looking for tips on how to be consistent with my prayers. The only time I can do it every day when I will not fall asleep is in my office. In the morning I’m usually late for work so I can’t sit down and do it and then at night I’m usually too tired. Is there a way I can do a shorter sadhana or maybe can I do it at work? Is it wrong for me to do it at work?

Heng Woon TeckActually this is important question. I learn that sadhana is like daily prayer we must do for collect merit. But we are so busy these day that sometimes we can forgot. Is this bad if we forgot to do? Will something happen to us? Can someone please help to answer this for her and also for me because I am new?

Wei ThengDear Leean, yes, you can do it at work. I normally do it during lunch time or after my office hour before I go home too. Hope that helps!

Sarah YapDear Leean,
Regarding your question if you can do your prayers at work, I think that entirely depends on the nature of your work… Also if the company you work in does not object to it, as some people may get in trouble or advised against from their HR department for placing a small religious figure on their office table. But if such issues is not a concern, then there is really no restrictions on where, how, when you can do your sadhana.
However, personally I would highly recommend setting aside a solid 15 minute sadhana time for yourself everyday. Nothing beats being able to concentrate purely on your spiritual practice in a private corner of your home, for just 15 minutes a day.
We do so many activities everyday that take longer than 15 minutes, such as showering, eating, talking with friends, cooking, watching the news… whatever. And we do all these because of habit, and we feel that it is important. So we should develop this habit of making prayers daily and strengthen our understanding of it’s importance in our lives. Once these two is strongly seated in your mind, you will wonder why was it even an issue in the first place.
If you need a short daily prayer, do take a look at this page: http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/starting-on-dorje-shugdens-practice
This is a short, complete prayer to Dorje Shugden composed by H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche. I was told that Rinpoche originally composed this prayer for one of his student, who was a high profile lady and did not have much time due to work, so this prayer is a perfect beginners to make connection with Dorje Shugden.
Hope this helps.
Wishing you much spiritual success.

LewI agree with Sarah that it is best to set aside about 15 to 20 minutes of quiet time to do the daily sadhana (practice). However, I also do understand most of us have busy schedule. Actually, I also do my daily practice in the office most of the time. For me, I have a small room which I can lock and spend some quiet time to do my practice. If you do have access to a room, then I don’t see any reason why you cannot do your practice at work.
Another tips I use when doing the serkym (golden drinks), is to use can or bottled drinks instead of making tea. During the serkym section, I just need to open the bottle/can. This is particularly helpful when we don’t have a serkym set in our office, or when we want to do a serkym during “emergency”. This also makes the serkym practice more manageable and less cumbersome.
Hope this helps and wish you can uphold our daily practice consistently

Vinnie TanI totally agree with Sarah and Lew. It would be best if you can have a solid 15 minutes to yourself to do your practices daily. We can do it anytime really. Like even during our lunch time when we are in the office, provided that it is not against any HR ruling of your company.
However, if you are not able to do it in the office, you can do it immediately when you get home from work or when you get out of the shower when you feel more refreshed. What I like is to do my daily practices after I get out of the shower as that is the time that I feel more fresh.
Hope this helps you and I really hope that you can do your practices daily. It is really beneficial in the long run.

Valentina SuhendraDear Beatrix
Thank you for your question. If you can only squeeze five minutes each time, maybe you can consider to do a short prayer to Dorje Shugden to build connection with him so it is easier for the protector to help you in the time of need:
You can do a short refuge prayer to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha,
Then recite one mala (108x) of Dorje Shugden main mantra Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha
The main mantra of Dorje Shugden can be explained as follows:
OM: Refers to the form of Dorje Shugden; as such recitation of this syllable calls upon Dorje Shugden
BENZA: Represents the enlightened mind of Dorje Shugden, the indestructible nature of the union of bliss and emptiness of all Buddhas
WIKI BITANA: Represents peaceful, increasing, controlling, wrathful and enlightening activities
SOHA: Represents the exhortation to grant requestsand do a dedication prayer for the fulfilment of your wish. You can do this repeatedly throughout the day.
Do read more about the explanation of Dorje Shugden mantra, http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/dorje-shugdens-mantra
In addition before you eat, you can also recite food offering prayer to Dorje Shugden:
OM AH HUM (3x to purify the food)
GANGSHIG DRENPA TSAMGYI CHINANGI
BARCHE KUNSEL LESHEY TRINLEY NAM
TSOLDZE GYALCHEN SHUGDEN RIG NA TSEY
TENSUNG KORDANG CHELA CHO PAR BULAll the obstacles from within and without,
Completely you dispel and make things clear and fulfil activites,
To the Five Families of Dorje Shugden,
Your great entourage and assistants I offer this.Do read more about food offering prayer – http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/food-offering-prayers-to-dorje-shugden
I hope this explanation is helpful and best wishes in your practice.
